What makes our classes unique is that we will be using a 50-inch flatscreen to present analysis of action or storytelling on film. Classwork will be filmed so that students can review their work on the screen at the end of each class. We also encourage synchronization between all classes – performance art is not produced in a vacuum, and requires collaboration between diverse artistic disciplines.

Choreography

Learn to create your own choreography for dance and fight sequences, increase your body awareness, and express emotion. We will be analyzing filmed sequences where dialogue takes a backseat to movement, and learning how elements of diverse activities are incorporated into a performance to tell a story.

Choreographers can workshop their creations as part of the practice of the Stage Combat and Acting classes, and/or cast for an actual performance. This way, performers in the Stage Combat and Acting classes get to practice their techniques and develop a greater understanding of how to bring a choreographer’s vision to life.

Prior experience with dance, stage combat and/or acting is helpful, in order to be familiar with basic terminology and techniques necessary to create and convey choreography to performers - we recommend taking the Stage Combat/Acting classes in conjunction with the choreography class.

Please wear form-fitted, flexible clothing with a full range of movement. Flexible shoes secured to the foot are preferable - you may be asked to remove footwear that interferes with the style of the choreography, or asked to wear particular shoes for the next class if the choreography requires it. To avoid potential injury, please do not wear dangly jewelry or heeled shoes/pointe shoes unless given permission by the instructor.
By special appointment or invitation only
